I think I have that exact model of ThinkPad lying around, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to POST due to the display connection likely having gone flaky* :(
It would be an excellent candidate for trying out weird/non-Linux OSes if I could get it working again, though…
(* -it sometimes lights up and lets me enter the BIOS config but then locks up shortly after, or it doesn't initialize the display at all and just beeps (I looked the beep code up and it was for "graphics subsystem error" or somesuch IIRC), or it just does nothing at all otther than spin the fan)

how cool, international business machine gang :D the keyboard on that thing feels amazing.I think I have that exact model of ThinkPad lying around, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to POST due to the display connection likely having gone flaky* :(
it would be a fun project if you managed to fix yours, i'd be interested to get updates on how it goes :) mine (or technically my mom's) is really worn out because it's been stored improperly. and some of the chassis is kinda cracked. but still works somehow. also some of the screws are screwed in much too hard (i think).
how much RAM does yours have installed (if you could see it in BIOS)? mine 512 MB :D the new IDE HDD i got works luckily (the old one is still fine but i could not bring myself to delete windows XP even though i made a backup).
ps: if you know what model of battery to buy & where (the original i have is really bad) hit me up. i tried ordering one after looking up the model no. etc. but it did not work (or like did technically work, but the battery stats/percentage could not be read, neither by NetBSD nor Windows XP so i returned it) :(
and i was too scared to buy new RAM so far because i already messed up the battery order.
i wanna write about it more here sometime if i manage to find proper components
