This is a FORUM BANNER. This writing is the DESIGN upon the forum banner. The DESIGN is to help ADVERTISE the forum. We hope to draw your attention to it and encourage you to read the threads. When you have done that maybe you'll be persuaded to partake in the forum - in this case forum.sickos.net. Then we want you to JOIN it. The idea being that the more of you that join this forum the more friends the manager owl and the forum members themselves will make. To the aforementioned this is known as FUN. A good banner DESIGN is one that attracts more members and gives more fun. This writing is trying to pull you in much like an eye-catching piece of text. It is designed to get you to READ IT. This is called luring the VICTIM, and you are the VICTIM. But if you have a free mind you could STOP READING NOW! Because all we are attempting to do is get you to read on. Yet this is a DOUBLE BIND because if you indeed stop you'll be doing what we tell you, and if you read on you'll be doing what we've wanted all along. And the more you read on the more you're falling for this simple device of telling you exactly how a good design works. They're TRICKS and this is the worst TRICK of all since it's describing the TRICK whilst trying to TRICK you, and if you've read this far then you're TRICKED but you wouldn't have known this unless you'd read this far. At least we're telling you directly instead of seducing you with a beautiful or haunting visual that may never tell you. We're letting you know that you ought to join this forum because in essence it's a WEBSITE and WEBSITES are to be visited and you are a visitor and this is a good WEBSITE. We have written the forum's name in special lettering so that it stands out and you'd see it before you'd read any of this writing and possibly join it anyway. What we really are suggesting is that you are FOOLISH to join or not join a forum merely as a consequence of the design on its banner. This is a con because if you agree then you'll probably like this writing - which is the banner design - and hence the forum. But we've just warned you against that. The con is a con. A good banner design could be considered as one that gets you to join the forum, but that never actually happens to YOU because YOU know it's just a design for the banner. And this is a FORUM BANNER.
it takes up like half the page on the banner ... i think it should be removed or AT LEAST made so its in one line and scrolls like a marquee ( similar to the pea nis )

I personally don't mind it. If it gets in the way, it's only a page refresh away from being gone.

there are definitely some in there that take up a lot of space. i'm personally unbothered but if we find ourselves divided with some people enjoying and some people unenjoying, perhaps we can spitball some technical solutions, like...

- force marquee for things that span multiple lines
- hide overflow until hover/click
- ability to ignore/toggle per-user

yeah i think it's fine and fun. it's definitely not as obtrusive as the thing i made, and there's no way we're getting rid of this:

(that's a live image. if you highlight the text in the page it updates the image. the image is not rasterized and is infinitely resizable.)

as turnipgod said it's always a refresh away if it is in the way and personally i think it is charming

i'll set up a way to ignore them ari. would you be okay with me being a little lazy about it and like, storing ignored_ids in a cookie instead of dealing with database structure changes? if you lost your cookie for some reason you'd have to re-ignore

oh yeah the ignore list is a really good idea

i think it's a good solution but if this ends up being a bother to more people i'd be totally fine with deleting it. i understand it can get annoying if you get it a bunch of times in a row
