bicycling
then returned home before getting to my destination because i don't have the right gear. i really need a rear rack again to stop the upsplash and better footwear. also the rain pants i bought a decade ago do not fit and when i realized that i should have just given up.
but i'm committed to returning to being a hardcore bike boy

i grew up on very hilly terrain so my bike didn't see very much use but now in NL i love it so much it's such a great method of transportation

my partner and i get out on our bikes a lot in the summer and always talk about wanting to keep it up even in the other seasons, but it doesn't happen as much as we'd like.
have you ever done any bikepacking? our favorite trip was on Vancouver Island a couple of summers ago. insanely tough but so beautiful.
just once. my dad and i did a three night out and back on the c&o canal trail in 2017 or so. it was tough but a lot of fun.have you ever done any bikepacking? our favorite trip was on Vancouver Island a couple of summers ago. insanely tough but so beautiful.

it sounds trite but for the second half of the trip i had this continuing realization that in many situations i'm too quick to think i'm at my limit/surrender/give up, when truly there's a lot more to go and i have a lot more to give. it was healthy to be in a situation where continuing was truly the only option (middle of nowhere with no way out but to keep going)just once. my dad and i did a three night out and back on the c&o canal trail in 2017 or so. it was tough but a lot of fun.have you ever done any bikepacking? our favorite trip was on Vancouver Island a couple of summers ago. insanely tough but so beautiful.
i built my current bike all from parts ordered through a chicago bike shop with anarchist vibes who were more than happy to take my naively-scrounged-together list of parts, make adjustments to fit available supply, and sell me parts in a big box.
since leaving chicago i have not rode bike as much as i used to. albuquerque and anchorage are both scary cities for riding in the street and i really prefer to ride in the street. i miss chicago and portland and minneapolis/st paul for their bike-able streets.
another reason i have not been riding as much is that i adopted a dog and i worry about what kind of overuse injury she might develop if i ride with her too much. she **loves** running with me while i ride my bike. too much. she always barks at me when i start to get on the bike, then she tries to bite the front wheel as i start pedaling. i yell at her to **FUCKING GO** and she takes off, straining at the leash and doing nearly all the work of pulling me for the first kilometer or two.
two days ago i rode bike to the ER where I had accidentally left my favorite pocket knife with security. it was about a 7 mile ride there and back and she did /spectacularly/. she is such an amazing dog. i want to ride bike with her more.
