just because the 2025–26 NFL season ended does NOT mean i am no longer excited about the pigskin.
everyone drop your favourite teams and/or home teams if you don't really pay attention to the sport and i'll tell you why you should be excited about them
and if you're not from the US well that's not an excuse 🐻⬇️

nbsp i have to know how you settled on the bears
so i really only tapped into the season by week 6, and it took me a while to warm up to any team in specific. i was mostly following it for the love of stats, then i learned the strategy is amazing, then various personal and team stories caught my eye. i eventually just kinda felt a connection with the bears for a couple of reasons:
- they had been bad for years, not making the playoffs since 2020 and not winning playoff games since 2010
- they just changed their head coach and starting quarterback, two people who've really turned the team around and made them seemingly unstoppable for a bit
- every single bears game is thrilling no matter what the outcome is. the fuckers will pull themselves out of an 18 point hole in the last three minutes of the game. you do not turn off a bears game
- the bears/packers rivalry is over 100 years old and the new head coach is entirely playing into it, which i love
- the quarterback paints his nails
last year they were the only NFC North team not to continue to the playoffs, and this year they were the top NFC North team and #2 NFC behind only the seahawks. they had a monumental season and i want to support them throughout an entire season :D

thank you~
maybe i love the bears, too.
spinecone says they have a negative guy persona reputation in chicago (more suburban/more bro-ey) but i think it's time to change that

if you wanna feel a bit more of the human side of football, the NFL has a series called Mic'd Up where they focus on one player for an entire game, including on the sidelines, and everything they say. they're often super nice and excited and they hug their opponents and tell them to stay healthy
in this video you can see bears safety Jaquan Brisker have nine distinct handshakes with various team and crew members

i don't think new mexico or anchorage have NFL teams.
when i was a child someone bought me a Raiders winter coat.
then someone told me i could get killed for wearing it; i believed them.

yeah NM doesn't have a team, the closest one would be the Arizona Cardinals i suppose? AK and HI don't have teams and that's a damn shame

I imagine the travel costs for an AK or HI team would be cost prohibitive, even for the NFL

idk trips across the entire continent and back happen every week for at least four teams in the regular season. the bottleneck would honestly be player exhaustion from a long flight but they do it so often i think they could manage
