i got my first 1cc in a shmup, Harmful Park!

but it was on easy mode...the bosses mostly fell to one bomb + a little extra. however the final few stages were mildly challenging. the game is oozing with charisma and has some really cool mechanics/gimmicks. i especially liked unkillable enemies you had to lure into a trap (that could also kill you).

on to normal mode!
i love the vibes so much but i think i need to finish BIRDCAGE before i try any more shmups :V i'm so bad at them i can't curse myself with multiple simultaneous games

birdcage is super cool but i was already heavily invested in einhander; i feel like i hit a wall with it so i took a break to do harmful park. i think it's valid to intentionally take a break from one so you can go back refreshed.

harmful park is great eye training -- i am really working on not staring at my ship but rather at threats / bullets.

spiritually that's the same thing as panic rolling in souls games. like it seems obvious you should be looking at the bullets/danger and not staring at your ship, but in practice it's so hard to do

i've always appreciated what Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy is going for but i've never sat down to try it, definitely on the (ever-growing) backlog though

Getting Over It was my relaxation game for a few years. i never found it enraging or trollish and once you get a feel for the hammer it is quite therapeutic. i think my PB was around 5 minutes flat? i would love to see or read someone trying it again. all the playthroughs on YouTube from back then leaned fully into the rage and many didn't even finish the game

i've been playing a different UFO 50 game each week with a group of friends!

this week has been Cyber Owls, which is a game that melds like, 5 different styles of game into one thing!

i actually just beat it! but the condition to get the cherry is kinda spicy! (you have to beat the game without losing a single life)

i loved UFO 50! i mostly only played the co-op games with my partner though. we played sooo much Party House.

i'm not sure the details on co-op yet, but the Slay the Spire board game is co-op and it works really well, tons of fun! highly recommend if you find an opportunity to play. anyway i imagine that gave them some mechanical beta-testing for the second video game.
