Re: hello new sickos members
sickos.net (dark) (WIP)
wdym "sickos.net (dark)"? I use a dark theme here already, and it looks Just Fine :p
(side note: I almost submitted this having typoed "sickos.net" as "dickos.net"…wonder if that domain is up for grabs? 🤔 (not that I'm brave enough to check lol))

Re: chat like it's IRC while town is offline
ngl a BSD tilde would perhaps be an interesting break from the norm…I would say tilde.town could switch to it if vil et al. feel like Linux is being shown up as too flaky to reasonably support a pubnix-type environment, but I do wonder how much townies rely on Linux-isms in their little town-bespoke ...

Re: TILDE TOWN EMERGENCY SHELTER
uh, big doubt, what are they gonna do, hunt down someone who god forbid wrote code and put it up online?
I suspect it'll manifest in no longer being able to legally disclaim liability/warranty the way many open-source licenses do or something to that effect. Get Your Software Right or be sued ...

Re: TILDE TOWN EMERGENCY SHELTER
We have finally reached a point where "hardly anyone uses Linux lol" is no longer an excuse for vulns, I'm afraid...

WELP
Big props to vilmibm et al. for making efforts to keep town going even in the face of all this kernel exploit stuff; tbh if I were in charge of such a thing I'd probably have given up by now x.x;
Also FWIW the "oh no" message on attempting to log in is cute

Re: chat like it's IRC while town is offline
I can still access ~town websites, so it looks like the server isn’t fully down
Yeah, clearly they've just temporarily revoked all ssh keys except for admins until the kernel can be updated with a version that patches the latest vuln
…as an aside, I certainly hope this doesn't keep happening ...

already missing town IRC proper :(
web forums are great and all, and it's neat seeing this place used more, but periodically refreshing the "Unread posts" page just isn't the saaaaaame D:

Re: Linux Vulnerabilities General
From what I've gathered about this latest one, it's a local privilege escalation, so someone would have to either have direct access (either physically or via ssh or the like), or they'd have to get you to run their exploit, so it's mostly relevant to public ssh servers like town, perhaps less so to ...
